Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Review: A New Era of Thinness

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 since its release, and I have to say, this phone is an absolute game-changer. Samsung has finally solved the one major compromise of foldable phones: the bulk. This device is not just a foldable phone; it’s a seamless fusion of a phone and a tablet that feels as natural to hold as any flagship “slab” phone.

The first thing you notice when you pick it up is the unbelievable thinness. When folded, it measures a mere 8.9mm—exactly the same thickness as the new iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is a staggering achievement for a foldable. There’s no longer a reason to choose a standard phone for pocketability. Unfolded, it’s just a mind-boggling 4.2mm thick. Holding it open is like holding a sheet of glass, it’s truly razor thin. This is thanks to the new, redesigned Armor FlexHinge which is not only thinner but also stronger, and the crease is almost entirely invisible.

The new design also brings with it a much-needed change to the cover screen. The 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display is now wider with a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it a perfectly usable, non-cramped phone on its own. When you unfold it, you’re greeted with a stunning 8.0-inch main display. Whether I’m multitasking with two apps side-by-side or watching a movie on the expansive screen, the display’s vibrant colors and 120Hz refresh rate make everything feel incredibly fluid.

Under the hood, the Z Fold 7 is powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. Performance is flawless. Apps open instantly, and multitasking is a breeze. But the real magic is with the camera. Samsung has finally brought a flagship camera to its foldable line, with a massive 200MP wide-angle camera borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The photos are incredibly detailed and vibrant, and the new ProVisual Engine makes processing lightning fast.

Pros and Cons

Flagship Camera: The 200MP camera is a huge leap for the foldable series. No Dust Resistance: Still only IPX8 water resistant, not dust resistant.
Improved Cover Screen: The wider screen is a joy to use for quick tasks.Limited Optical Zoom: Camera is great but the 3x optical zoom feels a bit limited compared to some other flagships.
Optimized Galaxy AI: The new features are incredibly useful on the large inner screen.Relatively Slow Charging: Not the fastest charging on the market at 25W wired.

Q&A

Q: How does the battery life hold up? A: With a 4400mAh battery, it’s excellent. I’ve been getting a full day of heavy use, which includes using both the inner and outer screens for several hours. Standby time is fantastic.

Q: Is the new hinge and display durable? A: The new Armor FlexHinge and thicker Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) feel incredibly solid. While no foldable is as durable as a non-folding phone, this is a significant step forward. Samsung also offers a generous warranty for screen repairs.

Q: What about the software experience? A: The Z Fold 7 comes with One UI 8, which is optimized for the large screen. App continuity is seamless, and new AI features like Gemini Live are incredibly useful for on-the-fly translations and information gathering. Multitasking is the best on any mobile device, period.

Q: Is the Z Fold 7 worth the price? A: If you’re someone who loves the idea of a phone that’s also a tablet and can afford the premium, absolutely. It solves the biggest usability issues of previous models and truly feels like a phone for the future.
